The European Commission adopted on Friday 9 December the Polish, Estonian and Irish programmes implementing the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) covering the period 2021-2027.
Poland will receive €732 million for the six-year period, of which €512.4 million will come from the EU budget. The funds for this country will be split almost equally between support for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture. Investments will be made in human capital, reducing fleet overcapacity in the Baltic, improving safety, health and working conditions and improving energy efficiency.
The total amount of funding allocated to Estonia is €139.1 million (€97.4 million of EU funding).
Ireland will receive €258.4 million over the next six years (€142.4 million from the EU budget). In Ireland, 50% of the programme’s allocation will be dedicated to sustainable fisheries and conservation of aquatic biological resources to strengthen the resilience of the fisheries sector to current challenges. The rest of the programme will stimulate sustainable aquaculture and blue economy activities.
The Commission has adopted the EMFAF programmes of 23 EU countries.
