08/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – At the Justice and Home Affairs Council on Thursday, 8 December, EU Member States finally adopted the regulation amending the decision-making process in European standardisation organisations. According to the interinstitutional agreement that was reached at the beginning of October, third countries’ national standardisation bodies will no longer be able to hinder the work of European standardisation organisations when a European Commission proposal only has the support of EU Member States and the European Economic Area (see EUROPE 13041/6). Moreover, the standardisation process will have to take SMEs, consumers, and environmental and social stakeholders into account to a greater extent. The text will enter into force 20 days after it is published in the Official Journal of the EU. It will be implemented 6 months later. (PH)
