08/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – The NGOs Nature & Progrès and PAN Europe (Pesticide Action Network Europe) announced on Thursday 8 December that they had jointly submitted a request to the Belgian Council of State for the immediate suspension of the authorisation of two Cypermethrin-based insecticide products. At issue: the toxicity of this active substance to bees and aquatic species and human health and the fact that the Belgian authorities did not carry out a comparative assessment of the product containing Cypermethrin and the available chemical and non-chemical alternatives, in breach of the Pesticides Regulation (EC) 1107/2009. PAN Europe had already filed a complaint against the decision to renew the authorisation of Cypermethrin (see EUROPE 13012/7) in the EU for seven years in 2021. The two NGOs criticise the Belgian competent authorities for never having applied substitution for this or any other substance. (AN)
