08/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – “The European Union condemns today’s public execution of a man in Farah, Afghanistan, in the strongest terms”, indicated European External Action Service spokesperson Nabila Massrali on Wednesday, 7 December. That same day, the country’s Taliban regime publicly executed a man sentenced to death for murder. She reiterated that the EU opposes the death penalty in all circumstances. “It is a cruel and inhumane punishment”, which “represents an unacceptable denial of human dignity”, insisted the spokeswoman. She also called on the Taliban to not carry out any more executions and to pursue a policy that would abolish the death penalty. (LM)
