18/11/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Patent Office (EPO) and the Unified Patent Court (UPC) signed an agreement on Thursday 17 November on data exchange between the two institutions. The agreement facilitates the exchange of data between the EPO’s European Patent Register and the UPC’s Register. The EPO will also be able to train UPC staff. The agreement was signed in the margins of a high-level conference in Brussels dedicated to the new unitary patent. Today’s agreement will take effect with the entry into force of the UPC agreement, scheduled for 1st April 2023. The establishment of the UPC is proceeding apace. The UPC appointed no less than 85 judges in October (see EUROPE 13047/24). (PH)
