17/11/2022 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, was in Kazakhstan on Thursday 17 November, where he met the President, Jamart Tokayev. He recalled the EU’s interest in further cooperation with Astana as the Union is the biggest investor in the country. It is necessary, in his view, to strengthen the economic but also diplomatic links between the two parties. He suggested that the next Council under the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement in February should be held in Kazakhstan. He also discussed political reforms in Kazakhstan and indicated that the presidential election on 20 November was an opportunity to demonstrate the will to ensure the full implementation of this agenda. Josep Borrell is in Uzbekistan on 18 November to co-chair the EU-Central Asia Connectivity Conference in Samarkand. (LM)
