The Council of the EU decided on Monday 14 November to impose sanctions against 10 individuals and one entity linked to the poisoning of Alexei Navalny and the production of chemical weapons delivery systems in Syria.
Therefore, agents of the Criminalistics Institute and senior officials of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) and Russian chemical weapons experts are being targeted in connection with the poisoning of Mr Navalny.
The EU also sanctions MHD Nazier Houranieh & Sons, which supplies the Syrian Studies and Research Centre (SSRC) with materials used to produce chemical weapons delivery systems, and its co-owners, Chadi Houranieh and Mohammad Nazier Houranieh, two Syrian-Canadians.
In total, the EU has taken action against 25 individuals and three entities in connection with the use and proliferation of chemical weapons. They are subject to an asset freeze and an EU travel ban. EU persons and companies are also prohibited from making funds available to listed persons and entities.
