In its first evaluation report on Iceland, published on 14 November, the Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence welcomes the “comprehensive action” done by the authorities in implementing the Istanbul Convention, but identifies “a number of further issues that require further action”.
The Council of Europe experts call for a telephone helpline, funding for NGOs providing specialised support and the appointment of a coordinating body to monitor and evaluate the policies adopted.
GREVIO also notes that stalking, “honour” crimes, forced sterilisation and marriage, and female genital mutilation “have been afforded little to no attention” in the policies implemented.
Migrant women, those with disabilities, in prostitution or with addictions “do not always find a place in the current system of service provision” it also noted.
The evaluation visit was conducted from 28 March to 1 April 2022.
