08/11/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 8 November, the EU Council extended the sanctions regime related to Türkiye’s unauthorised drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean for one year, meaning they will now be in place until 12 November 2023. At present, two people are sanctioned under this scheme which was adopted in 2019 (see EUROPE 12367/8): Mehmet Ferruh Akalin and Ali Coscun Namoglu, two officials of the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), who carried out unauthorised drilling activities (see EUROPE 12435/4). The sanctions consist of a travel ban to the EU, an asset freeze for individuals and an asset freeze for entities. In addition, EU persons and entities are prohibited from making funds available to people who appear on the list. (CG)
