08/11/2022 (Agence Europe) – The President of the Eurogroup, Paschal Donohoe, said on Monday 7 November that cooperation between Italy and the euro area countries would be “close and predictable”. After a meeting with Italian Finance Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, who was attending the Eurogroup for the first time, Donohoe noted “the strict commitment” from the new Italian authorities on how public finances will be managed, and in particular the need to promote economic growth. “Italy must play its part and it will do so”, Giorgetti said. He said Italy would wait for the judgment from the German Constitutional Court before deciding whether to ratify the reform of the European Stability Mechanism, the euro area’s rescue fund. (MB)
