08/11/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday, 8 November, Cycling Industries Europe (CIE), the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF), and the Confederation of the European Bicycle Industry (CONEBI) called on the European Commission to swiftly adopt an EU cycling strategy. In their opinion, this strategy should aim to double the number of kilometres cycled by EU citizens “through quality infrastructure, road safety policies, and technology such as electric bicycles, cargo bikes, and bike-sharing systems”. In addition, it reportedly needs to recognise cycling as a mode of transport and a priority mobility industry. The strategy should also support a bicycle industry that is “competitive, resilient, and sustainable” as well as capable of growing to supply at least 30 million bicycles and electric bicycles per year.
