The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, met with the Chilean Foreign Minister, Antonia Urrejola, in Argentina on Monday 31 October. They both agreed to formally conclude the negotiations on the modernisation of the EU/Chile Association Agreement in Brussels in the coming weeks. This step will then pave the way for ratification of the text.
The details of the agreement were finalised several months ago, and the Europeans were waiting for the new Chilean government to give them the green light (see EUROPE 12961/21).
This agreement is part of the EU’s trade priorities to diversify its partners, and particularly to strengthen economic ties with Latin America (see other news).
The EU also wants to conclude the negotiations for the modernisation of the agreement with Mexico before the end of 2022. (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
