31/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, said in an interview with the German press on Saturday 29 October that the European Union had so far frozen “more than €17 billion” of assets held by 90 Russian people or Russian companies sanctioned for their involvement in Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine. He said €300 billion in foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank of Russia could be used as “collateral” to finance the reconstruction of Ukraine. “Ukraine wants to use this money for reconstruction. In my view, it is at least possible to keep the €300 billion as a guarantee until Russia voluntarily participates in the reconstruction of Ukraine”, the Commissioner stressed. (MB)
