31/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 31 October, the EU’s Court of Auditors published a rather positive opinion on the proposal to amend the regulation on the financial rules applicable to the general budget of the Union (Financial Regulation). The European Commission had made such a proposal on 16 May 2022 in order to better align this text with the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) package for 2021-2027. The auditors welcome further digitalisation, which will play an important role in the fight against fraud and conflicts of interest affecting EU funds. They also welcome the fact that the early detection and exclusion system is managed with the Member States. The proposal was criticised by MEPs (see EUROPE 12954/27).
