14/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – At the Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRIPECHE) meeting on Monday 17 October, Ministers are expected to adopt the Council of the EU’s first reading position on the Directive on a better gender balance among non-executive Directors of listed companies in the EU (‘Women on Boards’). Approved by the Member States’ deputy ambassadors to the EU (Coreper 1) on Wednesday 12 October, the proposal from the Czech Presidency of the EU Council was still met with resistance: Poland, Sweden and Hungary have announced their intention to vote against it, while the Czech Republic, Estonia, Slovakia and Latvia intend to abstain. Put forward by the European Commission, the Directive has been blocked in the EU Council since 2012 due to the lack of a favourable qualified majority (see EUROPE 12823/17).
