10/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, welcomed on Friday 7 October the decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Belarusian human rights defender Ales Bialiatski, and to the Russian human rights organisations Memorial and the Ukrainian Center for Civil Liberties. In a statement, he warmly congratulated the winners on “this prestigious recognition of their tireless and invaluable work”. “The decision to award this year’s Nobel Peace Prize to these champions of democracy and human right is a sign of hope and light amidst the darkness of internal repression in Russia and Belarus and Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine”, said Borrell.
