06/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – The three French organisations,Institut Veblen,Association nationale interprofessionnelle du bétail et des viandes (Interbev) and Fondation pour la nature et l'Homme (FNH) are concerned about the ratification of the EU-Mercosur trade agreement. The Brazilian presidential election at the end of October could give the Commission’s work on the agreement an advantage, which frightens the three organisations. They consider this agreement to be a “lose-lose” one, as it risks encouraging deforestation in South America, the import of products containing pesticides banned in the EU, and unfair competition with European producers. They ask France to “stay the course and oppose the ratification of the EU-Mercosur agreement, an agreement that is in every respect incompatible with the objectives of the European Green Deal”. (LM)
