04/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – The Vice-President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, said, on Tuesday 4 October in Luxembourg, that Ukraine would receive a first tranche of €2 billion of aid in mid-October as part of the €5 billion macrofinancial assistance recently approved by the European Union (see EUROPE 13025/26). Two further instalments are expected to be paid in November and December. Mr Dombrovskis said the Commission was working on how the EU could be more predictable in its macrofinancial assistance to Ukraine, a victim of military aggression by Russia, by including in particular this issue in the preparation of the EU budget for 2023. The EU27 have yet to agree on further assistance of up to €3 billion, which should take into account bilateral grants from Member States to Ukraine. (MB)
