04/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament approved, on Tuesday 4 October, with 555 votes in favour, 42 against and 23 abstentions, the compromise text agreed with the Council of the EU on a new regulation on statistics on agricultural inputs and products (see EUROPE 12991/20). The statistics on pesticide use will cover the active substances of all plant protection products placed on the markets of the Member States and the crop areas treated with these products. The first data on the size of crop areas treated with pesticides will be collected in 2026 and disseminated in 2028. After that, collection should take place on an annual basis (see EUROPE 12965/21). The text still needs to be formally adopted by the EU Council. The regulation will enter into force 20 days after its publication and will apply from 1 January 2025. (LC)
