04/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – In Strasbourg on Tuesday, 4 October, the European Parliament approved (596 votes in favour, 4 against, and 22 abstentions) the text of the regulation—agreed upon with the EU Council—on management, conservation, and control measures applicable in the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) Area of Competence. The rapporteur on this text is Gabriel Mato (EPP, Spanish). These measures now have to be transposed into EU law. The text notably includes a ban on tropical tuna discards (with some derogations), rules to protect blue sharks (Prionace glauca), and national management plans for the use of drifting fish aggregating devices (DFADs).
