FuelEU Maritime’, Jörgen Warborn’s report confirmed by European Parliament Transport Committee

Members of the European Parliament’s Transport Committee (TRAN) voted on Monday 3 October in favour of the report by Jörgen Warborn (EPP, German) on the use of renewable and low-carbon fuels in maritime transport (‘FuelEU Maritime’) (36 votes in favour, 6 against and 2 abstentions) (see EUROPE 12984/24).

This agreement strikes a balance between ensuring that our climate targets are met in an effective way, while preserving the competitiveness of the maritime sector and protecting industries and families from rising prices”, commented Jörgen Warborn.

Despite a huge majority in the transport committee, several MEPs, such as TRAN committee chair Karima Delli (Greens/EFA, French), expressed their regret that the text lacks ambition.

I hope that we will be able to put things right in the plenary session by increasing the 2030 target for carbon content (...) I would also like to see us remove a number of exemptions that plague the text”, concluded Delli.

The text will be put to a vote in the European Parliament at the next plenary session, starting on 17 October, to decide on a common position for the inter-institutional negotiations. (Original version in French by Thomas Mangin)
