The European Parliament’s Agriculture Committee approved the compromise text agreed with the EU Council on a new regulation on statistics on agricultural inputs and outputs by 39 votes to 1 with 1 abstention on Tuesday 12 July.
The statistics on pesticide use will cover the active substances of all plant protection products placed on the markets of the Member States and the crop areas treated with these products. The first data on the size of crop areas treated with pesticides will be collected in 2026 and disseminated in 2028. After that, collection should take place on an annual basis (see EUROPE 12965/21).
In addition, statistics on animal and plant production, agricultural prices and nutrients will be collected by the Member States in accordance with the new rules.
The draft regulation must be formally adopted by the Parliament plenary and the EU Council. The regulation will enter into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU and will apply from 1 January 2025.
