Brussels, 12/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 12 July, MEPs on the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) gave the green light, by a near-unanimous majority (42 votes in favour, 1 against and no abstentions), to the interinstitutional agreement reached at the beginning of June on the directive on radio equipment and common chargers for electronic equipment. As a reminder, the co-legislators extended the scope of the directive to some fifteen types of electronic devices (including smartphones), introduced a time limit for wireless charging technologies and included voluntary decoupling between the sale of the product, the charger and the cable (see EUROPE 12966/13). The interinstitutional agreement is expected to be voted on at the first plenary session in October, according to a source, although this has yet to be confirmed. (PH)
