The European Commission announced on Wednesday 28 September the adoption of the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) programme for Cyprus.
The total financial allocation for the Cyprus 2021-2027 programme amounts to €54.7 million over the next seven years, of which the EU contribution is €38.3 million.
The Cyprus programme will support, among other things: - investments to comply with the landing obligation; - investments in fishing vessels to improve safety, health, hygiene, working conditions, energy efficiency and decarbonisation; - reducing overcapacity in certain fleet segments (scrapping aid); - investments in aquaculture; - investments in monitoring and protecting biodiversity and marine protected areas.
Of the total programme allocation, 59% will be devoted to sustainable fisheries, 11% to sustainable aquaculture, 12% of the allocation will be devoted to the sustainable blue economy and 10% of the funds will go to strengthening international ocean governance.
