21/09/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission’s Action Plan against Racism is two years old (see EUROPE 12563/2). However, for the second year running, the European Network Against Racism (ENAR), the Equinox Initiative for Racial Justice and the European Roma Grassroots Organisations (ERGO) have called the institution to account (see EUROPE 12795/20) and denounced “the negligible amount of progress made”. In particular, they deplore the lack of transparency regarding the implementation of National Action Plans against racism and report a lack of communication between the different levels of government. But the associations are most concerned about the rise of the far right in the European Union. “The EU Institutions must recognise this threat and act, or any initiative for racial equality will be dead in the water”, warned ENAR Director Ojeaku Nwabuzo in a press release.
