21/09/2022 (Agence Europe) – The Party of European Socialists (PES) Electoral Committee approved, on Friday 16 September, the candidacy of former Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven to replace the Bulgarian Sergei Stanishev as PES President. The latter praised Mr Löfven’s work in organising the November 2017 Gothenburg Social Summit (see EUROPE 11907/1, 11906/2) which had proclaimed the European Pillar of social rights. The Swedish Socialist’s nomination, the only one submitted, will be put to the member parties at the PES annual congress on 14-15 October in Berlin. (MB)
