Brussels, 16/09/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 16 September the NGOs Birdlife Europe and Central Asia, Environmental Coalition on Standards (ECOS), the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC), Transport & Environment, and WWF Europe announced that they were leaving the ‘Platform on Sustainable Finance’, a stakeholder group established by the European Commission to provide it with recommendations on sustainable finance. The NGOs claim that the Commission has interfered politically in the work of the Platform and accuse it of repeatedly ignoring their recommendations, notably with regard to the inclusion of forestry, bioenergy, fossil gas and nuclear energy in the EU taxonomy. “The Commission is legally bound to justify the taxonomy criteria based on ‘conclusive scientific evidence’. However, Brussels has chosen to ignore science and listen to industry lobby groups for several critical sectors”, their statement said. See the press release: https://aeur.eu/f/34f (DG)
