05/09/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 5 September, MEPs on the European Parliament’s Committee on Legal Affairs (‘JURI’) approved the opinion report by Axel Voss (EPP, German) on harmonised rules regarding artificial intelligence (AI) (17 votes in favour, one against) (see EUROPE 13011/15). Axel Voss’s report introduces exceptions for AI systems in the research sector and for ‘B2B’ (business to business). In addition, the report aims to clarify responsibilities in order to avoid duplication and parallel management. The idea of setting up a Council for Artificial Intelligence, dear to the rapporteur on behalf of the JURI Committee, was also retained (see EUROPE 12928/24). (TM)
