05/09/2022 (Agence Europe) – The Czech Minister for European Affairs, Mikuláš Bek, told MEPs of the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, on Monday 5 September, that a hearing on Hungary and Poland under the Article 7 procedure on the Rule of law will take place on 18 October in the ‘General Affairs’ Council. “We want to continue the work that has been started” with a “political discussion in a constructive spirit”, he said. On Hungary, he expects “the Hungarian government to make proposals” and will soon meet the country’s Minister of Justice, Judit Varga, as Budapest seeks to obtain European recovery funds. In November, the Czech Presidency will also conduct a thematic debate on the Rule of law through the situation of five Member States (Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden and Romania) on the basis of the Commission’s report (see EUROPE 12992/1).
