05/09/2022 (Agence Europe) – BusinessEurope, the European association representing the interests of companies, sent an open letter, on Wednesday 31 August, to the Czech Finance Minister expressing its concern about the European Commission’s and some Member States’ plans to introduce taxes on energy companies, particularly on so-called “infra-marginal“ profits (see EUROPE 13012/1). Some countries (such as Poland, Romania and Hungary) are already considering such schemes, the Association said in its letter. Italy has already introduced an exceptional tax on the profits of energy companies. For BusinessEurope, these measures work against the financial stability of markets and in fine against the competitiveness of companies. In its view, the solution remains the deepening of the Internal Market and the maintenance of pro-growth policies. To view the letter: https://aeur.eu/f/2xz (PH)
