26/08/2022 (Agence Europe) – Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 998,085 Russian citizens have entered the European Union legally, including 71,260 between 16 and 22 August, according to statistics that the European agency Frontex published on Twitter on Friday 26 August. Most of these people arrived via Finland and Estonia, two countries that will ask to suspend tourist visas for Russians at EU level next week in Prague at an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers (see other news). Since 24 February, 329,185 Russians have travelled legally to Finland and 281,957 to Estonia. The majority of them have EU residence permits/visas or EU nationality and thus are finding “alternatives to the restricted air links” from Russia, Frontex adds. (SP)
