26/08/2022 (Agence Europe) – European Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič laments the humanitarian consequences of the resumption of hostilities in Ethiopia. “The renewed fighting in northern Ethiopia #Tigray seriously affects the humanitarian efforts to assist millions of civilians caught up in the conflict. We call on all parties to immediately end hostilities and engage in peace talks”, Mr Lenarčič declared on Twitter on Thursday, 25 August. Relaying the appeal made by the World Food Programme (WFP), he added, “I call for a swift return of the stolen fuel to @WFP. Without fuel, there is no food delivery possible in #Tigray. The lives of millions depend on it!!” According to WFP, on 25 August, Tigray authorities stole 570,000 litres of fuel intended for WFP operations in Tigray. (AN)
