26/08/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 26 August, the Prime Ministers of Poland and Slovakia inaugurated an interconnection between the gas networks of their countries. The pipeline is about 165 km long and aims to reduce the dependence of EU countries on Russia by providing access to new sources of supply in Central and South-Eastern Europe, as well as facilitating the market between Northern and Southern Europe. In particular, Slovakia will be able to receive gas from Norway or liquefied natural gas (LNG) via Poland. The facility could also allow Algerian gas to be transported to Poland via Italy and Slovakia. The interconnection was funded by more than €100 million through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), around 40% of the costs, thanks to its status as a project of common interest (PCI) from 2013 to 2021.
