Brussels, 23/08/2022 (Agence Europe) – The World Trade Organization (WTO) published its latest goods barometer on 23 August, which gives trends in trade volumes before official figures are available. It indicates a slight growth in trade in goods in the second quarter of 2022, but which should be lower than in the first quarter (3.2% increase). By comparison, last year, merchandise trade grew by 22.6% in the second quarter, but was held back in 2022 by the war in Ukraine and the lockdowns in China (see EUROPE 12958/27). The end of the latter should lead to a resumption of container transport, according to WTO estimates. In contrast, the air transport and electronic components sectors appear to have declined in recent months. See the barometer: https://aeur.eu/f/2sj (LM)
