On 9 August, the European Commission announced an additional €8 million in humanitarian aid to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), which is facing security problems in the east of the country. Total EU funding to the DRC in 2022 amounts to €54.4 million. This particular aid should help support people displaced by conflicts caused by the presence of non-state armed groups in the east of the country.
In addition, the EU has allocated €4 million to Uganda, which is hosting refugees from the DRC. The funding is to help address this influx, as well as the food insecurity in the Karamoja region. Uganda receives the most refugees in Africa, according to the Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič. (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
