European Commission approves Finnish and Swedish programmes for implementation of EMFAF

The European Commission announced on 5 August the adoption of the Finnish implementation programme for the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF).

The total financial envelope for the Finnish 2021-2027 programme is €140.3 million for the next six years, of which the EU contribution is €71.8 million. The fund will promote the sustainable growth of the Finnish fisheries and aquaculture sector by stimulating modernisation and innovation.

The programme will, among other things, support the sustainable growth of the Finnish fisheries sector by investing in projects that preserve primary production conditions and stimulate innovation and digitalisation. It is also planned to double Finnish aquaculture production by 2030.

The Commission also validated the Swedish programme which has been accorded a total of €231.6 million, including €115.9 million of EU funds. Swedish priorities: sustainable development of the Swedish fisheries sector (mandatory landing, use of selective fishing gear, protection of marine biodiversity and marine protected areas, and an increase in aquaculture production by 71% by 2030).
