23/08/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 8 August, the European Commission adopted the territorial Just Transition Plans for Austria and the first funding under the Just Transition Fund (JTF) of €76 million out of a total of €136 million (in current prices). Austrian local authorities in Upper Austria, Carinthia, Lower Austria and Styria will receive support under the JTF to enable them to make a successful climate transition. In these regions, carbon-intensive industries in the metal, paper, cement and chemical sectors have a massive presence, the Commission justifies in its press release. This action is part of the partnership agreement signed with Austria in May (see EUROPE 12943/20). (MB)
