25/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 25 July, the European Commission approved Slovakia’s application for the registration of a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). ‘Hrušovský lepník’ is a round or half-moon shaped cake with a diameter of 25-35 cm, prepared with a leavened dough made of bread and potatoes. It is filled or garnished and baked in a stone oven. There are different kinds of ‘Hrušovský lepník’: salty and garnished with garlic or filled with sauerkraut, or sweet and filled with jam or garnished with a mixture of cottage cheese and potatoes. It is made in the Banská Bystrica region. In the production of ‘Hrušovský lepník’, the dough and the filling are prepared exclusively by hand. This new name will be added to the list of 1,588 agricultural products already protected at EU level. (LC)
