25/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 25 July, the European Commission approved a €313 million German scheme to support the long-distance rail passenger sector in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. This follows another German scheme to reduce track access charges for the period from 1 March 2020 to 31 May 2022, which the Commission approved on 30 July 2021. The aid will take the form of a reduction in the charges payable by long-distance rail passenger operators for access to railway infrastructure during the period from 1 June to 31 December 2022. The aim of the measure is to help rail passenger transport operators to cope with the difficult situation caused by the pandemic. (LC)
