14/06/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) voted on Tuesday 14 June in favour of the draft opinion report by Bulgarian MEP Eva Maydell (EPP) on harmonised rules on artificial intelligence (61 votes in favour, 2 against, 0 abstentions) (see EUROPE 12965/16). Ms Maydell’s opinion report aligns the proposed definitions of AI systems with those of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and establishes an exemption for the research sector. In addition, the text sets out what are considered to be “more realistic” requirements for data quality and, among other things, wishes to strengthen support for small and medium-sized enterprises.
