Europeans continue contact with Ukrainian authorities to adapt health support to population’s needs

During a meeting of the ‘Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs’ Council—which provided health ministers an opportunity to discuss the health situation in Ukraine—on Tuesday, 14 June, the European Commission presented an update on the assistance that had already been provided to this country and expressed the need to continue this support.

Questioned by EUROPE, Commissioner for Health Stella Kyriakides reported that she was in touch with Ukrainian Minister of Health Viktor Liashko regularly in order to adapt European aid to Ukraine on a daily basis to suit the needs of the population. The work is being done in conjunction with Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič. The European Commission expects these to be long-term efforts.

French Minister for Health Brigitte Bourguignon, who chaired the meeting, was anxious to highlight the unity demonstrated by Member States and the specific efforts made by Eastern European Member States. (Original version in French by Émilie Vanderhulst)
