Member States’ ambassadors to the European Union (Coreper) will be asked on Wednesday 15 June to give their green light to the provisional agreement reached on the night of 6-7 June between the French Presidency of the EU Council and representatives of the European Parliament on the directive introducing adequate minimum wages in the EU (see EUROPE 12966/12).
The legislative text of the agreement was only finalised at the end of last week, so this meeting will be an opportunity to test the positions of the Member States before the EU Employment and Social Affairs Ministers are invited to approve the results of the negotiations in Luxembourg on Thursday 16 June.
As a reminder, the outstanding points concerned the reference values for setting minimum wages, the conditions for protecting the work of trade unions, the extension of the coverage of workers by collective agreements and the possibilities for variations and deductions from minimum wages. EUROPE will continue to follow this story.
