On Wednesday, 8 June, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell announced the nomination of 31 Heads of Delegations of the EU.
Europe. Roland Galharague of France is becoming Head of the EU Delegation to Russia; Christiane Hohmann of Germany, Head of the EU Delegation to Albania; and Pawel Herczynski of Poland, Head of the EU Delegation to Georgia. Marilyn Josefson of Sweden has been nominated Head of the [EU] Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic, and Raimundas Karoblis of Lithuania will replace her at the helm of the delegation to Tajikistan.
Africa. Finland’s Petra Pereyra has been nominated Head of the EU Delegation to Botswana and the Southern African Development Community to replace Sweden’s Jan Sadek, who is heading up the delegation to Uganda. Sylvie Tabesse was nominated Head of the [EU] Delegation to Djibouti and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development—replacing Ireland’s Aidan O’Hara, nominated to head the delegation to Sudan. Artis Bertulis of Latvia is leading the EU Delegation to Guinea-Bissau, and Jolita Pons of Lithuania, the delegation to Guinea-Conakry. Isabelle Delattre (of France) is becoming Head of the EU Delegation to Madagascar, and Portugal’s Salvador Pinto Da Franca Roux, Head of the EU Delegation to Niger. Italians Francesca Di Mauro, Antonino Maggiore, and Gianluca Grippa have each been nominated Head of the EU Delegation to Côte d’Ivoire, Mozambique, and Eritrea, respectively. Spaniard Belén Calvo Uyarra is heading up the delegation to Rwanda; Frenchman Jean-Marc Pisani, the delegation to Senegal; and Dutchwoman Sandra Kramer, the delegation to South Africa. Finland’s Timo Olkkonen has been nominated Head of the [EU] Delegation to South Sudan and will be replaced at the helm of the delegation to Zimbabwe by Germany’s Jobst von Kirchmann.
Asia/Pacific. Jorge Toledo Albiñana of Spain is becoming Head of the [EU] Delegation to China, and Jean-Éric Paquet of France, Head of the EU Delegation to Japan. Italian Gabriel Visentin is heading up the EU Delegation to Australia, German Marc Fiedrich is taking the helm of the EU Delegation to Timor-Leste, and Frenchman Jacques Fradin is becoming Head of the EU Delegation to Papua New Guinea. Estonia’s Riina Kionka is leading the delegation to Pakistan.
Americas. René van Nes of the Netherlands has been nominated Head of the EU Delegation to Guyana, for Suriname, and with responsibility for Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Saint Barthélemy, Sint Eustatius, and Sint Maarten. Italy’s Stefano Gatto is heading the delegation to Haiti, and Poland’s Izabela Matusz has been nominated Head of the EU Delegation to Panama.
Institutions. Vesna Batistić Kos of Croatia is becoming Head of the EU Delegation to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
The High Representative also nominated four Deputy Heads: Italian Raffaella Iodice is up for the EU Delegation to Afghanistan; her fellow Italian Sara Rezoagli, Thailand; Florence Liou, Morocco; and Plamena Halacheva, Serbia. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
