On 9 June 2022, the European Commission announced the mobilisation of €20 million in support of Ukrainian innovation. These funds have been mobilised through a targeted modification of the European flagship programme for innovation: the European Innovation Council, established under Horizon Europe.
The Commission estimates that the initiative will be able to support up to 200 Ukrainian start-ups and innovative companies operating in advanced technologies (deep tech). These companies will each be eligible for €60,000 in support. This support will be disbursed in the form of equity investments and grants. It will be awarded, through a call for projects that will be open from 23 June 2022, to associations across Europe supporting at least one innovative Ukrainian actor. The EIC will also offer non-financial support such as interlinking and information on available funding.
This initiative complements other European initiatives to support Ukrainians in the field of research and innovation: ERA4Ukraine, Horizon4Ukraine, the European Research Council’s initiative for Ukraine, and grants available under the Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions to support Ukrainian IDPs.
