On Tuesday 7 June, the European Medicines Agency’s (EMA) Executive Steering Group on Shortages and Safety of Medicinal Products adopted the first list of critical medicines for the Covid-19 public health emergency.
This committee was established with the adoption of Regulation EU/2022/123, strengthening the mandate of the European Medicines Agency (see EUROPE 12952/8). It was commissioned to develop this list of critical medicines. The published list is also accompanied by information on the supply and demand of the medicines mentioned. The list currently includes all Covid-19-related vaccines and treatments for which a conditional marketing authorisation has been granted in Europe.
The list will be updated regularly to take into account any changes in demand for specific medicines, particularly as the pandemic evolves or to take into account any supply pressures and the possible authorisation of new medicines to prevent or treat Covid-19.
