08/06/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission and Member States’ tax authorities set up a sub-group on tax enforcement within the ‘Freeze and Seize’ working group (see EUROPE 12914/5) on Wednesday 8 May. Headed by EU Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders, the Task Force wants to intensify its efforts against sanctioned Russian and Belarusian individuals and companies and their associates. The subgroup will help to uncover possible tax crimes and recover unpaid taxes while facilitating the application of EU sanctions. In particular, it will be responsible for: - checking tax files for persons and entities on the sanctions list; - sharing information about these persons and entities internally and with third countries.
