Climate effort sharing, European Parliament wants stricter rules for Member States’ emissions

The European Parliament adopted by a large majority (437 votes in favour, 142 against and 40 abstentions), on Wednesday, 8 June, the draft report by Jessica Polfjärd (EPP, Sweden) on the revision of the climate Effort Sharing Regulation (ESR).

MEPs are thus aligning themselves with the European Commission’s original proposal for new national greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets for Member States by 2030.
