Space traffic management - Member States support possibility of presenting a legislative act, but without giving a date

23/05/2022 (Agence Europe)The conclusions drawn up by the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU on Space Traffic Management (STM) pay lip service to a binding approach and eventually even to European legislation, without specifying a date, according to a version obtained by EUROPE on Monday 23 May. Thus, Member States support a “step by step” approach by referring to rules and even legislation, while taking into account the “risks and benefits of developing EU STM legislation”. But the 2024 date mentioned in the original proposal (see EUROPE 12955/11) does not appear. Many Member States, especially small ones, fear the introduction of administrative and normative burdens that could affect the competitiveness of their companies. The ambition would be for the next European Commission to tackle the task of drafting legislation. To access the conclusions: https://aeur.eu/f/1sc (PH)
