23/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 23 May, the European Commission approved €890,000 in public aid for Cyprus to support cheese makers in the context of the coronavirus pandemic. The aid was approved under the Temporary Framework for State Aid. Public support will take the form of direct grants of up to €200,000 per beneficiary. The measure aims to alleviate the liquidity problems faced by beneficiaries and to compensate for some of the losses they have incurred as a result of the pandemic. The scheme will be open to all companies active in the production and storage of Halloumi cheese. The European Commission found the Cypriot scheme to be in line with the conditions of the Temporary Framework for State Aid. Specifically, the aid will not exceed €2.3 million per beneficiary and will be granted by 30 June 2022. (LC)
