16/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 16 May, MEPs on the European Parliament Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) approved the provisional interinstitutional agreement on the Digital Markets Act (DMA) (43 votes in favour, one against and one abstention) (see EUROPE 12918/25). The text, which lays down a set of rules for large digital platforms, defines the powers of the various stakeholders and the Commission, and sets out penalties for non-compliance, had been negotiated at length by the co-legislators. An agreement was reached on 24 March (see EUROPE 12919/12). “Today’s overwhelming majority shows that Parliament is united against the unfair practices of gatekeepers”, said rapporteur Andreas Schwab (EPP, Germany). The Parliament’s vote is scheduled for the July plenary session. (TM)
